Will it be pointless using photos with jpeg format to be edited with Aperture 3?

I heard that aperture is easier to use than photoshop and there is new version Aperture 3 came on the market with more features. I mostly take shots in jpeg and I read that aperture jpeg editing is limited. How much of features can you use with jpeg in Aperture 3? I do use basic iphoto editing and would like to expand the editing skills beyond that. Photoshop seems to be very complicated to learn. Any advice would be appreciated.
